Season’s greetings!

I have always enjoyed this time of they year.  When I was a kid, it signified the half-yearly hoildays and the last bit of fun, followed by a real quick spring with not many holidays till summer. The look of the shiny black tar roads with cool crisp air surrounding me, having bicycle rides in the nearby Kalakshetra campus has stuck in my memory forever.  My friends Sukanya, Priya, and I, used to sit on top of the water tank in our building and enjoy the ocean-view from there. This has indeed been a secret place for us, until now! [I’m sure they don’t mind me for ratting out]

There was this wall with algae all over it. Sukku and I wrote our names on it which is still visible today, publishing the sad fact no one has ever thought of repainting it. :) Sukku is now in Illinois trying to finish her Ph.D. in something highly intellectual of which I am not familiar [ something like VLSI, not sure].

Later, when I moved to USA, one day Muni called me at 10am from his office and asked me to open the blinds and look outside. Being a Madrasi, I was in great awe to watch the snowflakes fall on the white clad ground. I will always love him for that wake-up call.

While I was doing my MBA, I hung out so much with my friends during X-Mas holidays I pretty much knew every single coffeehouse in DFW area.

Now that I have a job, and a daughter who needs constant attention, we pretty much hang out at Barnes & Noble or meet friends at home. In fact, muni has setup a fireplace for us.

I am nostalgic to this time of the year.  I agree with the song of Andy Williams:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you "Be of good cheer"
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
It’s the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It’s the hap- happiest season of all

There’ll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There’ll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago

It’s the most wonderful time of the year
There’ll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
